Is a trade all about point production? Of course not. Would the Rangers still like to see more than six points and a minus one through 11 games from Martin St. Louis? OF COURSE! Here are some other names to look at: Kris Versteeg has two points, Matt Moulson has three, Lee Stempniak seeing top line minutes at times has three as well and Marcel Goc has one. Who has scored more than Versteeg, Moulson, Stempniak and Goc? Try Dale Weise who has four with Montreal, though that's in just seven games. Another Habs acquisition that is paying off so far is Thomas Vanek who has points in five of the seven games he's played resulting in six points. Then there's the trade bust of the year in St. Louis as Steve Ott, although not a scorer, produced two points and Ryan Miller showed flashes of brilliance and moments of misery sometimes in the same game. Another goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, is 2-4-1 as he has had to step in as Minnesota's fifth starting goaltender of the season.
With the exception of a few of the deals, this deadline has mostly been a bust. There were other names moved that didn't even make it into the playoffs for consideration in this article. I have to wonder if it will impact future deadlines with some of these teams.
