Putting the most natural goal scorer in the league (Stamkos) with two incredibly skilled set-up men (Hall and Giroux - who can both bury their chances as well) should create a supremely fast and talented top line. Backes with Benn and MacKinnon I thought was a great combination of skill, toughness and speed. Backes is one of my favorites and I believe he's underrated when it comes to his offensive skill. Benn and MacKinnon should click well. The third line may actually be my favorite. Yes, I know Carl Hagelin plays the left side, but he's on my team because he's fast and tenacious and provides offensive jump. He'll be fine on the right side. Zemgus Girgensons will do absolutely anything to win and I'm not sure there's a player with more heart in this league than Gerbe. This line is going to keep any team honest as well as provide sneaky scoring. With Malhotra, McClement and Ott I have two of the great faceoff men in the league (McClement and Malhotra) and one of the biggest agitators (Ott) who can move up to the third line if need be. If there's an important defensive zone faceoff, these guys have it covered. My powerplay is full of high end skill and my penalty kill is primed with accountable players.
The defense provides a little of everything. Doughty and Hedman aren't afraid of anyone and have the potential to put up loads of points. Gardiner and Hamilton provide young enthusiasm, great speed and size. I love Gardiner's range and I'd give him the green light to run. Hamilton seems wise beyond his years and he can pitch in offensively as well. Greene and Gudas, well they're there to make sure the oppositions top guys leave black and blue.
My net is in great hands with two time Stanley Cup winner Jonathan Quick. Understudy Gibson is just about ready for the big time. A year with Quick will help him refine his game and his current cap hit will not be that low for much longer.
Well, this was fun. It was tough deciding on a couple of positions, but I think this team would be so much fun to watch. Who's on your team? How do you fill your depth positions? Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your team!!
